Dental Crown

A broken or decayed tooth can be painful, detract from the appearance of your smile, and even lead to further oral health issues. While a filling, inlay, or onlay may be sufficient for minor damage, more serious issues often require a dental crown. Dental crowns are tooth-shaped restorations that are placed over remaining tooth structure, providing protection and strength. At Manhattan Dental Practices, we offer a variety of high-quality materials to provide custom dental crowns tailored to your needs. Using advanced technology we can often place a permanent restoration in just one visit.

Why do you need a dental crown?

A dental crown mimics the function and appearance of a tooth. When placed over a weakened tooth, this type of restoration can restore full form and function. Dental crowns have long been a trusted solution for repairing broken or decayed teeth. Crowns can also be use to support dental bridges or top dental implants to replace missing teeth.

What is involved in fabricating a dental crown?

First, the doctor will need to remove the damaged portion of the tooth. This is necessary in order to provide a secure and comfortable fit. Then we will take digital impressions which will be used to create your customized restoration. Our dental laboratory can typically create a crown in about seven business days, during which time you will be provided with a temporary restoration. You will return to our office for the placement of the final crown. At this point in time, small adjustments can be made for the best possible result.

Qualifying patients may be eligible for a same-day crown. These restorations are composed of dental-grade porcelain and are created using our on-site milling machine. Typically, you can wait in our office for about an hour while your crown is being fabricated. The doctor will then secure your crown with dental cement and you can immediately enjoy its benefits.
